Sometimes I Wonder….
…if anyone actually thinks before they work with Microsoft Windows. The product (in ALL it’s forms) is notoriously memory hungry and disk space hog. So if you know that, WHY WOULD YOU BUILD A PRODUCTION SERVER WITH 4GB FOR IT’S OS PARTITION!?!?!?!
I ask this to those of you who work with servers. Everyone else can ignore this post.
Vista Tweaking
From Lifehacker:
Tweak Vista settings with Vispa

Regarding your post this morning and my subsequent comment:
After pulling XP from its desktop and laptop lines, Dell changed its mind and announced that it would offer it on new Inspiron 1405, 1705, 1505 and 1501 notebooks, and Dimension E520 and E521 desktops.
I betcha you can call and they will send you a free copy 😉
Switches, we don’t need no stickin’ switches!
At approximately 4pm EST my cisco 3550 decided it did not want to work as intended anymore and prevented my entire office of 100 people the ability to browse the internal network, the Internet AND make any calls on our fancy IP phone system.
I spent 4 1/2 hours on the phone with my corporate cisco engineer first diagnosing the problem and then configuring a backup switch (which I thankfully had on the floor collecting dust) to do the job of the old switch. Thankfully everything is working and only a few people will be inconvenienced in the morning as I rewire the network to let them have access to the outside world.
In the morning I plan on ordering a replacement 3550 or it’s equivalent and then using the catalyst 4650 now doing the job as a hot backup.
Overall, good things came of a potentially nasty situation.
Halo 3
Gonna have to get me one of them there XBOX 360 machines
The ability to email the entire staff in a geographical region or the entire staff of all a particular state’s offices should not be given to every member of a company. Nothing good ever comes of it.
UPDATE: Although it is insignificant compared to the power of the Force. (sorry, couldn’t resist the reference)
For the Nerds out there
An interpretation of the Windows Vista EULA.
I have seen Heaven…
….and in it, my computer does this
The Seventh Seal
I have installed Microsoft Internet Explorer Seven. It will either work well or pave the way for The Dark Master. Not sure which one yet….
Tip O’ The Day
When working behind a server rack, be careful not to step on the cord running to the power strip that your internet and phone system are plugged into!
