Things I learned today

So I am doing some prep work for the GF for a small get together she is having tonight. Some of the things I have learned from this:

1 – Beets smell good when being baked in the oven.
2 – When cooking beets in the oven, you are supposed to check and see if they are tender with a fork after an hour. After checking the tenderness of the beets, the fork comes out covered in what looks like blood…that’s pretty cool! 😉
3 – If you have children and want to punish them for mis-behaving, have them peel fresh garlic. NOTHING is more tedious and boring.
4 – One last thing when working with beets….you will find yourself wanting to say ‘phat’ everytime you say beets.
5 – Rocking out to a playlist that consists of Beastie Boys, Ozzy, Yes, Dire Straites, Gorillaz, Weezer makes working around the kitchen exciting.
6 – I am standing in gum, I think.

    Peeling fresh Garlic…..

If you dont need it whole, smack it with the flat edge of a knife. The skin pops right off, and its FUN to smack at things with a knife with no fear of death.

If you need many cloves to be whole, put them into a plastic or metal bowl. Put another bowl that is the same size on top of that and SHAKE THE HELL OUT OF IT. This works every time 🙂

Also, when you have stinky garlic hands, just rub them on stainless steel, it takes the smell away 🙂
